Alexander Hertl-Fernandez (Northwestern 2008)Alexander Hertel-Fernandez was named one of the 20 members of USA TODAY’s 2008 All-USA College Academic First Team. A political science major at Northwestern University, he has studied infant mortality in Chile, earned a Rotary Foundation ambassadorial scholarship, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellowship.

As an undergraduate at Southern California, he not only excelled in baseball but devoted himself to academics — being named All Pac-10 Academics, Academic All-American, and graduating cum laude.
