Alexander Hertl-Fernandez (Northwestern 2008)Alexander Hertel-Fernandez was named one of the 20 members of USA TODAY’s 2008 All-USA College Academic First Team. A political science major at Northwestern University, he has studied infant mortality in Chile, earned a Rotary Foundation ambassadorial scholarship, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellowship.

Brian Bannister (Southern California 2003)A starting pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, Brian Bannister hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an All-Star. As an undergraduate at Southern California, he not only excelled in baseball but devoted himself to academics — being named All Pac-10 Academics, Academic All-American, and graduating cum laude.
